Some years back, learning how to play the guitar on your own would have been challenging, but now with so much information about guitars available online, teaching yourself to play guitar is much easier. Here are a few things you can do to teach yourself guitar.
1. Get a guitar you love. Obviously, the first step to learning how to play the guitar is to buy one. When shopping for a guitar, choose one whose color, design, and size you like. Buying a guitar you like can be a motivator for you to always want to play it.
2. Learn the basic guitar chords, guitar tablature, and strumming patterns. Learning these skills will enable you to play almost any song on your guitar. The Internet is filled with online guitar lessons you can take to learn these skills.
3. Be prepared to put in the time. Experts say you’ll need at least 150 hours of practice to understand the basics of a guitar and be able to play simple musical parts. To be an expert guitarist, you’ll need over 5000 hours of practice. So schedule at least one hour a day of playing your guitar, because the more you practice, the better you will become.
